Pranayama for Meditators and Yoga for Meditators and Yoga Practitioners at Kripalu Center For everyone with min. 6 months of yoga experience. Pranayama is often referred to as the heart of yoga practice. It has the power to open you to mystical states of consciousness that can magnify the effects of all your other spiritual practices. Whether you are a hatha yogi exploring postures or a meditator from a contemplative tradition, your practice can deepen tremendously when coupled with pranayama. Spend four days immersed in the study and practice of pranayama as taught in the tantric hatha yoga tradition of Swami Kripalu. Each day will include an early morning pranayama and posture class created specifically for this program. Morning sessions will be dedicated to learning new breathing techniques, and afternoons will consist of discussion, pranayama, and seated meditation. We will study classical breathing practices as they were taught in the ancient texts. We will also look at what each pranayama was designed to do and learn how it can be incorporated into a contemporary practice. Five-Day Yoga Retreat December 26–31, 2010 For yoga practitioners (min. 1 year). Delve deeply into the tantra-based yoga of Swami Kripalu as taught by Yoganand Michael Carroll, a senior teacher in the Kripalu tradition. A Kripalu resident for many years, Yoganand lived as a monk focusing solely on spiritual practice. In recent years, he moved into the world, where he married, worked a variety of jobs, founded a yoga studio-and continued to practice. This unique combination of experiences makes Yoganand an ideal guide for contemporary seekers wanting to deepen their practices while living active lives. Each day of this retreat will consist of yoga practice incorporating advanced pranayama and asana techniques designed to generate and raise spiritual energy. The retreat will include:
Potent passages from yogic texts will also be explored, and we will investigate how we can use their teachings in our endeavor to strengthen, grow, and transform. Through experience and discussion, we will learn how to make these ancient practices work for us as modern yogis. For more information or to register:

Churning the Body, Freeing the Heart: A Tantric Hatha Yoga Retreat December 31, 2010–January 2, 2011 At Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, Lenox, MA For everyone with at least six months of yoga experience. The tantric hatha yoga tradition assumes that we do not know who we really are—that we developed a persona to fit into the world and then forgot that we were anything but that persona. The practice of tantric hatha yoga involves techniques that energetically disturb this persona. In Sanskrit, this consciously induced disturbance is called chalana, or churning. Each time the persona is churned, there is the possibility that it will reform a little closer to who we really are. When the difference between the persona and our true self grows small enough, we can let go of the persona and take refuge in the ultimate truth of our being. This retreat will include:
Move forward toward truth in a weekend that will encourage you to let go of your old identity. For more information or to register:
